The cost of living, high energy prices, inflation—people feel the pressure every day.
Europe has to answer and work for people.
The Single Market is one of Europe’s greatest successes. Now we must take the next step — digital, services, energy, capital markets.
No more naivety on China. Europe must defend its own interests.
We must strengthen trade defence instruments, diversify crucial supply chains, reduce raw material dependencies, ratify trade agreements, and boost Europe’s competitiveness at home.
These are crucial times given China’s threat to Europe’s industry & jobs. Imports are up 45% in 5 years, the EU’s trade deficit hit €1bn/day, we lost 250,000 industrial jobs last year & China’s subsidies and currency practices fuel overcapacity & unfair competition.

Being here, in Ceuta, we clearly see why we must act — and act together.
We need faster returns, stronger cooperation with third countries, and Spain must make use of every available EU support.
Partnership means reciprocity. Our partners must honour their commitments.
Our borders. Our rules.
Here, in Ceuta, one thing is clear: Member States, not smugglers, must decide who enters Europe.
We can't let smuggling networks continue exploiting human lives for business. In Ceuta we can see the disastrous result of irresponsible migration policies.
Ceuta shows the time to act is now: Spain must make full use of the Migration and Asylum Pact and the Return Regulation today, not tomorrow! The swift and effective return of all those remaining illegally must be the utmost priority.
