ON THE ROAD - ULM
Even the most torrential rain doesn’t stop us from standing up together for a strong, smart and kind Europe.
Just in time for the start of the open-air rally of the CDU and CSU on Ulm’s market square, it began to rain cats and dogs. But even the heaviest downpour doesn’t stop us from standing up together for a strong, smart and kind Europe. Quite the opposite!
The CDU and CSU close ranks: Together with Annegret Kramp-Karrenbauer, Thomas Strobl, Dr Inge Gräßle, Norbert Lins, Markus Ferber and Ronja Kemmer and many other friends of Europe and the CDU and CSU, we made it clear that in these European elections we must do everything we can to create stability from the political centre. We must defend ourselves against populist and extremist aspirations from both the left and the right.
That’s why we are committed to making sure people in Europe feel safe and protected. This is a basic prerequisite for a free Europe that creates opportunities and that offers people a future. I am delighted at the great support from the Union of the CDU and CSU and from the people for better police cooperation, for turning Europol into a true European FBI and for better external border protection with at least 10,000 additional European border guards by 2022.
We live in a world of many challenges and problems: Let’s build a Europe that puts people at the centre.
