ONDERWEG - COLOGNE
TODAY IN THE ELECTION ARENA — THANKS FOR THE GOOD DISCUSSION! LET’S SHAPE EUROPE WITH SMART IDEAS AND CONCRETE PROPOSALS!
Today in the election arena I faced questions from citizens about the future of Europe — on site in the studio in Cologne as well as live on Das Erste German television and on the web. With me in the debate was my competitor for the office of European Commission President, Frans Timmermans, of the European Social Democrats.
It’s important to me that together with our citizens we shape a strong, smart and kind Europe and that we lead Europe successfully into the future. Today showed this again: We have clear ideas and a concrete proposals. I stand for a Europe that belongs to us, the people — a Europe that protects, supports and cares.
Our Europe protects its citizens: we will strengthen Europol and transform it into a European FBI. This is how we will effectively fight terrorism and organised crime. We are committed to cooperation and data exchange and to ensuring that people in Europe can continue to live in peace, freedom and security.
Our Europe is innovative and offers people a future and prospects. With smart solutions we will support and care for the citizens of Europe. We will set up a master plan against cancer and ensure that everyone in Europe can enjoy the best medical care. Technological steps forward must serve people, not the other way around. That’s why we also need an innovation offensive on climate change. Innovation and progress mean opportunities. Let’s use them for the benefit of the people, and let’s bring Europe forward!
I stand for a strong, smart and kind Europe. Today’s debate has shown this once again. We’re shaping politics together with the people. Europe’s citizens want a clear programme and concrete steps. Let’s shape Europe together!
