ON THE ROAD - POLAND
LISTENING TO THE PAST: LEARNING FROM POLAND’S HISTORY
The central role of Auschwitz in European history means that Poland was the natural place to start my Listening Tour. Endeavouring to better understand the past is the least we can do to forge a better Europe for the future.
The Auschwitz memorial shows us what humanity was capable of in its darkest hour. I thought of the faces of those who suffered from Nazi atrocities. In a world where nationalism and antisemitism are on the rise, we must stand up for human values.
Grzegorz Schetyna, President of Civic Platform, Rafał Trzaskowski, recently elected Mayor of Warsaw in a landslide victory, and Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz, President of the PSL, greeted me in Poland’s capital.
EPP member parties are growing in strength in Poland and have clear and inspirational ideas for the future of Europe.
All voices in Europe are of equal value to me: I want to bridge the gap between Brussels and Europe, to bring Europe back to the people.
